Brighter Monday Kenya is solving the SME Hiring dilemma

East Africa’s leading online jobs platform BrighterMonday Kenya has increased efforts to address hiring challenges Small and Micro enterprises (SMEs) are facing, given the landscape of their economic environments.

The firm is partnering with SMEs in the region to enhance their recruitment and HR processes and recruit top talent. In February this year, 18.5% of the total revenue and 43.4% of customers the BrighterMonday serviced came from SMEs, with plans to expand this programme.

Leaders of these businesses grapple with establishing robust hiring processes and often think it is unnecessary to incur expenses from a professional firm to source for the best candidates. According to the World Economic Forum, SMEs play a major role in most economies, particularly in developing countries and account for the majority of businesses worldwide, significantly contributing to job creation and economic development. They represent about 90% of businesses and more than 50% of employment worldwide.

“It takes investment to attract the right talent pool and SMEs need to engage recruitment firms to walk with them in hiring qualified candidates, especially in an increasingly competitive employment environment. It is important for these enterprises to understand that their businesses are deserving to get the best talent available, just like any large corporations operating locally and internationally.” said Brighter Monday Kenya Chief Executive Emmanuel Mutuma, adding, “We will help SMEs believe they are favourable employers who shouldn’t compromise just because they are a growing business.”

Mr. Mutuma added that the firm is concluding a deal with the SME governing bodies in the country and is looking forward to assist the enterprises with effective recruitment.
